We want to donate 1000 books to our street libraries in 2024. 

We have adopted two street libraries, in Soweto and Alexandra. We often stock the cubbies with books that get donated to us and new books we get funding to purchase. The request for children’s books keeps growing as the communities engage with the libraries. By donating, you can help us make the dreams of young children come true:

This is the collection we’re providing in 2024, in at least five languages each.

Here is the breakdown of the cost:

  • One book in one language is R200 / $10
  • One book in all five languages is R1,000 / $50
  • To give a book every month for the year is R2,400 / $120
  • To a book in every language for the year  R12,000 / $600
  • To build a new street library R150,000 / $7,500

Donate within South Africa

The LitDistrict is managed by the African Book Trust, a registered South African non-profit trust (#IT001176/2016 G), with Section 18A tax-exempt status. The African Book Trust issues the relevant Section 18A tax certificates for contributions made within South Africa.
